Maleah Brooks, RDA, OA, AA, BS – Policy Director
Maleah Brooks has been a dental assistant since the age of 16. She has had her RDA since 1997. Her love of dentistry was fostered by her uncle who practices dentistry and encouraged her through her dental education. Maleah currently has her Full time Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential and is teaching Dental Assisting at Antelope Valley High School. During the 15.5 years of teaching at the high school, Maleah has been working on her educational goals. After many years she has finished her Associates degree in Communications and Bachelor’s degree in Career and Technical Education at CSU San Bernardino and will be starting her Master’s degree in January. In her “free” time, she likes to spend time at Disneyland with her husband and family.
Deodre Cotten RDA, AS – Secretary

Registered Dental Assistant Deodre Cotton has spent two decades working with nonprofit and for profit organizations in the dental field, researching, writing, leadership and philanthropy. Currently a clinical consultant for a residency community hospital located in the second district of the County of Los Angeles and has spent the past 17 years as a Dental Instructor. Deodre is currently pursuing a degree in education and is a firm believer of Life Long Learning her favorite quote “A love of books, of holding a book, turning its pages, looking at its pictures, and living it’s fascinating stories goes hand in hand with love of learning.” Her membership affiliations are with ADAA and ADEA she is married and has 2 children.
Tanya Cusick CDA, RDA, BS
Tanya has been in the dental field since 1993. She graduated from Cerritos Community College in Norwalk and earned her bachelor’s degree in Organization Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. Tanya has her Designated Teaching Credential and has taught at Alhambra High School. She has a wealth of dental office experience. Her college teaching experience began in 2007 at Citrus College as Adjunct Instructor and Pasadena City College in 2010. She considers herself a life-long learner, as she prepares to continue her education. During her free time she enjoys hanging out with her three favorite guys—her husband and two kids. She enjoys watching her two sons play sports: roller-hockey, soccer and football.
Susan Dahn RDA – President
Susan Dahn was first introduced to dentistry in 1979, when she was enrolled in a dental assisting ROP program. From the first day of class she knew she was going to love it and she continues to love it to this day. She earned her RDA license in 1982 and has held many different positions in the dental offices she has worked in. Her passion though, was found when she started teaching dental assisting in 1994. She learned that through engaging her students and sharing her love of dentistry, she could open doors for some that never thought could be opened. She currently is teaching Registered Dental Assisting for ROP/CTE and adult education.
Larice Washington RDA, AA – Treasurer
Larice Washington is a Registered Dental Assistant licensed by the
Dental Board of California in 1989, after completing the prescribed program course at Cerritos College and receiving an AA Degree. Larice worked as an RDA for 28 years at the University Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry; Lead Dental Assistant / Surgical Assistant in the Oral & Maxillofacial, Implant Surgery Department and Office Manager/Student In-Take; assisting the Urgent Care Clinic Director and the Professor for Sports Dentistry. She began in 1999 as Dental Assisting Instructor at Bryman College and continued as instructor in various vocational schools throughout Los Angeles County and vicinities. Larice received her Designated Teaching Credential in 1999 from the University of San Diego through the Los Angeles County Office of Education. In 2011 Larice began teaching Dental Assisting at Southeast ROP. She is currently the coordinator of Dental Assisting and Internship, for Norwalk-La Mirada Adult School. In her free time, Larice participates and renders service and skills at CARE Harbor Public Health clinic and assists with Dental Screenings at Elementary Schools throughout Los Angeles County. She also volunteers at Health Clinics sponsored by private organizations, such as churches and non-pro
