Biographical Sketch

Patrick Quaranta, D.M.D., M.S., F.I.C.D., F.A.C.D.

Dr. Quaranta graduated from Villanova University with a B.A. degree in Philosophy and a B.S. degree in Biological Science. He attended Monmouth University Graduate School of Education after this.

Dr. Quaranta attended Rutgers School of Dental Medicine where he received his D.M.D. degree in 1982. Immediately after graduation he was then invited to become a one-day per week faculty member as an instructor at the Dental School and concurrently entered private practice with his father in Highland Park New Jersey. In 1987 he was promoted to Assistant Professor and in 1996 he was promoted to Associate Professor.

For 20 years Dr. Quaranta worked one day per week at the dental school and 4 and 5 days per week in dental practice with his father. Dr. Quaranta, while a faculty member of NJDS in 1991, took on a two-year residency program in oral medicine/ oro-facial pain.

In 1992 Dr. Quaranta entered the Kean University Graduate School of Psychology where he performed research and obtained an M.S. degree in clinical psychology in 1997.

Dr. Quaranta took over his father’s practice in 1989 and after 18 years of full-time practice in 1995 became a three day per week faculty member and spent two years teaching in the Oral Medicine Division of the Department of Oral Pathology, Biology and Diagnostic Sciences. After twenty-seven years in private practice Dr. Quaranta became a full-time faculty member at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 2000.

In 1998 Dr. Quaranta was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental academic honor society, and in 1999 was offered a fellowship in the Faculty of the International College of Dentists (FICD). On April 19, 2002, Dr. Quaranta was accepted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists (FACD)

Dr. Quaranta, during his time at the dental school won teaching awards including the Excellence in Teaching Award 1991, 92 and 2002 and teacher of the year numerous times. Rutgers University of the Health Sciences in 2002 developed a Master Educators’ Guild and inducted one faculty member per year per school into the guild. Rutgers School of Dental Medicine is one of the six schools which include Medicine, Nursing, Osteopathic Medicine, and Biomedical Science. Dr. Quaranta was the first member to be elected to this award from the Dental School.

Dr. Quaranta retired from the university in 2018 and now works in a private practice in Ewing, New Jersey doing Oral Medicine, Oro-facial pain/TMD and treatment planning for medically complex patients.

He has been married to his wife, Sally, for 40 years and they have two children: Brian, who as an oncologist in Asheville, NC and a daughter, Stacey who is the principal of Brunswick Acres School in South Brunswick, New Jersey. They also have 3 grandchildren.

Dr. Quaranta’s hobbies are fishing and amateur astronomy and his favorite activity is enjoying time with his grandchildren. They live on the Barnegat Bay in Brick, New Jersey.
